Sawn Timber

Also commonly known as Sawn Carcassing Timber, available in both treated and untreated forms, as well as also being available ungraded and graded, dependent on the end use. The majority of Sawn Carcassing Timber is on the market as C16 /C24 grade and will suit the vast majority of applications, grades over and above being those specified by Architects and designers. Sawn Carcassing is commonly available in 47mm x 75mm thicknesses and widths of 50mm - 225mm (increments of 25mm), lengths range from 2.4m - 6.0m (increments of 300mm).  The majority of stock today is also 'regularised' that is it has been passed through a planning machine to regularise and uniform its size meaning that finished sizes are approximately 5mm less than the sawn size, ie Sawn 47mm x 100mm  (4" x 2") will be regularised to 45mm x 95mm. This regularised material is easier to handle and work with.

Timber Studwork

Timber ideal for Studwork and partitioning / framing is CLS and Scant. This material is produced in convenient regularised / planed eased edge sizes and fixed lengths ideal for Studding and partitioning. Commonly graded as well to C16.

Common sizes of CLS that you will find on the market and in particular from TimberClick regional Merchants are 50mm x 75mm (38mm x 63mm Finished Size), 50mm x 100mm (38mm x 89mm Finished Size), in 2.4m and 4.8m lengths (other lengths available but these generally prove to be the most common sought after).

Garden Timber

The development of gardening & landscaping television programmes since the mid 90's has not only increased the popularity and use of timber products such as Decking (link to Decking Landing Page) and Railway Sleepers (Link to Railway Sleepers Landing Page) but also other forms of Timber, such as 22mm / 25mm thick sawn treated boards for edging, compost bins, raised borders, fencing slats and more. When using Sawn treated timbers for gardening and landscaping projects, unless it is for load bearing applications such as Decking Joists etc you can more often than not select to use the cheaper sawn ungraded materials, all TimberClick Merchants will have a good range of sizes and lengths of this try of material for such uses and projects.

Planed Timber

Timber that has been planed and made smooth, common terms used to describe this material are 'PSE' - Planed square edge, 'PAR' - Planed all round and simply 'Dressed', all at the end of the day are one and the same thing. Timber that has been planed can again come in various forms and qualities, some TimberClick Merchants will offer Softwood Redwood (Pine) while others and more so in the North of the country will offer Softwood Whitewood (Spruce). Within these species alternatives there is also a range of 'Qualities', most standard material is machined from Vth and is ideal for most Planed Timber applications, however some boards are machined from the higher Joinery quality 'Unsorted' and are more suitable when less knots, blemishes and defects are the desired effect. It is common with some smaller size sections to machine from 'Unsorted' materials.

Planed Timber materials are generally available in 25mm - 100mm thicknesses (increments of 25mm) and in widths of 25mm - 225mm (again increments of 25mm). Lengths are more often than not random supply ranging from 2.4m - 4.8m. Planed Timber will finish 5mm less than the Sawn size, so case example 25mm x 50mm will actually measure approx 21mm x 45mm when planed.
